The year 2009 marks the 75th anniversary for Hummel's Office Plus, located in Mohawk, NY. The company was founded in 1934 by Harrison J. Hummel, Sr. as Excello Typewriter. In 1940, Hummel opened for retail business as Excello Office Supply in Herkimer, NY. In this small shop, he repaired typewriters and sold typing paper, ribbons, and other typing supplies.
After becoming a part of the Office Plus buying cooperative and gaining a tremendous amount of buying power, Hummel's has been able to transform from a modest storefront to an 80,000 square feet distribution center.
Today Hummel's Office Plus is the largest independent office supply dealer in upstate New York. Their fleet of delivery trucks travels over 500,000 miles per year delivering much more than their original typewriters and supplies to cities from Syracuse to Oneonta, Amsterdam to Old Forge, and all points in between! With three retail locations, a team of outside sales representatives, an exceptional customer service department, and convenient online ordering, Hummel's is now able to provide a wide selection of products in office supplies, furniture, technology, cleaning and breakroom, and more!
This fourth-generation family-owned company has achieved a lot in 75 years, says Justin Hummel, the great-grandson of the founder of Hummel's Office Plus. "This 75th anniversary milestone means more today than it did a year ago because of the uncertain times our country faces. I don't know if my great-grandfather ever thought we would be where we are today, but I know he would be awfully proud of where we are going in 2009!"
